More and more letters to the editor of the Herald Journal
It’s that time again – time to make fun of the fucktards who write letters to the Herald Journal. First up this week is Torrie Crapo of North Logan. Torrie has pit bulls on the brain. Take it away, Torrie!
To the editor:
A dog’s stability, shyness, aggressiveness and protectiveness is tested by The American Temperament Test Society.
Sounds made-up, but whatev.
The ATTS lists an 85.3 percent passing rate for American pit bull terriers. Only 84.6 percent of golden retrievers, 83.7 percent of German shepards, 71.1 percent of chihuahuas, and 70.2 percent of bulldogs passed the same test. Of all dog populations, the average passing rate was only 77 percent.
Wow. The pit bull outscored the dog used by Nazi war criminals to guard concentration and POW camps. We’re sold, we’re buying one for our newborn.
Historically, pit bulls were bred for hunting and cage fighting purposes.
They’re obviously safe!
Since both of these tasks required close contact with handlers, it was important that the breed did not exhibit any signs of human aggressiveness. Consequently, the modern day pit bull is genetically engineered to be extremely friendly with humans, including children and strangers.
Which is why we so rarely hear about them attacking children and strangers. Just ask Latrell Sprewell.
The idea that pit bulls are vicious stems from the dog aggression that is associated with dog fighting rings.
What point are you making here again, exactly?
American pit bull terriers and other similar breeds are some of the most popular dogs around. Logically, the breed with the highest number of dogs will be responsible for the largest percentage of attacks.
So, logically, the Labrador retriever must be responsible for the largest percentage of attacks…except they ain’t. American pit bull terriers, maulers of cats, killers of children, defiers of logic!
This is one reason why we hear of attacks by pit bulls more often than we hear of attacks by other breeds.
The other major, major reason being because pit bulls are always attacking shit.
Furthermore, media outlets use the word “pit bull” to describe American pit bull terriers, American Staffordshire terriers, Staffordshire bull terriers, bull terriers, American bulldogs, Rhodesian ridgebacks, Alapaha blue blood bulldogs, and any mixed breed dog that has genes from one of these groups. The real “pit bull” is the American pit bull terrier, which shoulders the blame for acts committed by multiple breeds. Reports of “pit bull attacks” don’t inform us of anything.
Well, actually, virtually every time actually, they inform us that some individual has lost the use of their trachea due to it being bitten by a pit bull. But other than that, yeah, no new real information in those reports, Torrie.
Additionally, most adults do not know what an American pit bull terrier looks like. Witnesses to a dog attack will frequently misidentify an aggressive dog as a pit bull. Try testing yourself by identifying the picture of the pit bull at http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html. All things considered, the actual number of attacks by American pit bull terriers is much lower than what media reports lead us to believe.
This sounds like fun. Let’s see if we can identify the pit bull in the following two photos:

This is a pit bull.

This is not. You’re right, Torrie, that was surprisingly difficult! It must be even more difficult when you’re just been/watched a loved one or pet get mauled.
By exercising, spaying/neutering and properly training our canine companions, we can do a lot to reduce the number of dog attacks. Punish the deed, not the breed.
Wow. That was special. Thanks ever so much, Torrie. Writing in the same vein is Michelle Cordova of River Heights. Turn that shit up in our headphones, Michelle.
To the editor:
I’m disappointed that The Herald Journal printed an article promoting the negative stereotyping of pit bulls.
The Herald Journal: Dog racists.
I’m referring to the clearly biased article that appeared Thursday, Aug. 20, titled “Pitbull enters Logan home to attack cat.” Had the dog been another breed would this have been such saucy news that it needed to be reported? I highly doubt it.
Really? You really think a vicious dog ENTERING SOMEONE’S HOME to kill their cat is not news? In that case, you’re fucking stupid.
I have worked in the animal industry professionally for several years
Is this Michelle Cordova, or Michael Vick?
and would like to enlighten your staff and readers with uplifting and positive facts about the same pit bull breed that is labeled as a monster in the media. Did you know that pit bull dogs are used all across the country in working capacities such as therapy dogs, search and rescue, narcotics detection and in U.S. Customs?
Not only that, our uncle uses them in a working capacity to guard his junkyard.
According to the American Temperament Test Society (www.atts.org) pit bull dogs have scored higher cumulatively on their tests since its beginnings in 1977 than the golden retriever, beagle, cocker spaniel, shih tzu and many other popular breeds across the U.S.
Cocker spaniels are nasty little fuckers. So are shih tzus. Beagles are known for being neurotic yappers. We’ve been attacked by two dogs in our lifespan; both were cocker spaniels. The pit bull: marginally less likely to attack than other breeds which are known for being likely to attack.
Breed specific legislation is growing like wildfire across the country due to improper media reporting. There are more than 25 breeds in the U.S. that are commonly wrongly identified as being a pit bull terrier, meaning not every pit bull “attack” you hear or read about was really the result of this breed. It is almost impossible for the average person to accurately identify a pit bull. With all of this scandalous reporting, it encourages lawmakers to consider breed specific legislation in our own communities. BSL is ineffective, costly to residents and unfair to responsible dog owners. Because a dog is aggressive with another animal does not mean it will necessarily be aggressive towards humans.
Okay, maybe not, but it definitely doesn’t mean it WON’T be aggressive toward humans.
This animal aggression is called a “prey drive” and that’s what makes some breeds such good hunting companions. Even nice dogs have a prey drive. Pitties have been bred for hundreds of years to be loyal, tolerant and loving towards people, especially children, but they can be a danger to other animals if not properly restrained, just like many other breeds of dogs.
They’re loving and gentle but FOR GOD’S SAKE, KEEP THEM RESTRAINED.
I challenge all dog owners to be cautious and responsible with your pets. Unfortunate incidents like this ruin reputations for other owners and their dogs. I’m sorry that the Cammacks lost their family cat in such a horrific way, and to the gentleman running this dog, I hope your mistake alerts others to the consequences of not having a dog properly restrained in a public place. Please pet owners, be responsible for everyone’s sake.
And being responsible starts with selecting a breed. Thanks for coming out, Mike, good luck with the Eagles.

Hello I just had a popup from my firewall when I opened your page do you know why this occured? Could it possibly from your ads or something? Thanks, really odd i hope it was harmless?
Good job! Can’t wait to start my own blog.
Praise this site for your helping hand.
I wrote a similar blog about this subject but you did a better job :)
Thats very good to know… thanks
that cat had it coming. being a cat and all, of the feline persuasion, parading around being all cat like. that dog did what any god faring american would have done and if you disagree then you’re a terrorist. Plain and simple.
I’ve had chihuahuas put down for attacking cats. Granted, the cats were usually the ones putting them down, but they were killed for their actions all the same. Just because a dog isn’t just a walking jaw with teeth, doesn’t mean they can’t come in and mess you up!
Thank you! You often write very interesting articles. You improved my mood.
